VINEYARDSThis Chenin Blanc vineyard, planted in 1956 on the border of Paarl and Stellenbosch, features dry-farmed bush vines on a gently sloping, south-facing decomposed granite site. WINEMAKING AND MATURATIONAfter being whole bunch pressed, the fermentations for the various batches lasted between 1 and 6 months with all components finishing secondary malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 10 months in old 500-litre French oak barrels and concrete eggs. TASTING NOTESThe granitic soils contribute to the wine’s natural freshness, grip, and characteristic flavours of yellow fruit, oatmeal, and fynbos. The vintage also showcases the typical saline core and purity that we have come to expect from this old vineyard. While this wine is enjoyable to drink young, it will continue to evolve and reward for many years to come. |
